Studio portrait of 2607 Pte Sidney Cecil Leer, 1st (later 1st Division Headquarters Australian Engineers) Battalion, of Rockdale, NSW, son of James Joseph Crabb Leer and Alice Maud Leer, Summer Hill, NSW. A draftsman prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Runic (A54) on 9 August 1915. He was wounded in action and died of his wounds aged 24, on 4 December 1915, on the Gallipoli Peninsula. He is buried in the Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Anzac Cove, Turkey.
