Description

Group portrait of men of the 34th and 36th Battalions; Identified back row, left to right: Private (Pte) Richardson, 1091 Pte (later Company Sergeant Major) Edmund James Conway and 36 Pte (later Lance Sergeant) John Kenneth Clinch. Front row: Lance Corporal L. Courtnay, Pte George Edward Smith and 1408 Pte Stanley Herbert Brazil. A printer in Taree, NSW prior to enlistment, Kenneth Clinch embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Hororata (A20) on 2 May 1916. He was killed in action on 1 October 1917 at Zonnebeke, Belgium, aged 21 and buried on Passchendaele Ridge. Following the war his grave was not found and he is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
