Studio portrait of 1965 Pte (later L Cpl) Robert Frederick Michael, 20th (later 18th) Battalion, of Port Hacking, Sydney, NSW, son of Charles W and Ellen Michael. A baker prior to enlisting, he embarked from Sydney aboard HMAT Runic (A54) on 9 August 1915. He was killed in action on 3 May 1917 at Bullecourt, France, aged 22. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France.
