Studio portrait of 3829A Private (Pte) George William Henry Hurst, 25th Battalion, of Yeulba, Qld. A carrier prior to enlisting in September 1915, he embarked from Brisbane with the 9th Reinforcements on board HMAT Wandilla (A62) on 31 January 1916. He was transferred to the 49th Battalion during training in Egypt and arrived in France for service on the Western Front on 12 June 1916. Pte Hurst was killed in action at Messines, Belgium, on 7 June 1917. He was 22 years of age.
