Studio portrait of 1735 Sergeant (Sgt) Vernon Clifford Lanyon, 27th Battalion, of Grange, SA. A clerk prior to enlisting in May 1915, Lanyon embarked from Adelaide with the 2nd Reinforcements on board HMAT Kanowna (A61) on 23 June 1915. On 19 September 1915, he died of wounds received in action at Gallipoli. Sgt Lanyon was 21 years of age.
