Studio portrait of 6756 Private (Pte) Philip Walter Groves, 10th Battalion, of Henley Beach, SA. A piano tuner prior to enlisting in September 1916, Pte Groves embarked from Adelaide with the 22nd Reinforcements on board HMAT Afric (A19) on 7 November 1916. On 18 May 1917 he died in France of wounds received in action. Pte Groves was 23 years of age.
