Studio portrait of 5270 Private (Pte) Charles Hill Flanders, 31st Battalion, of Tirroan, Qld, holding a koala. A farmer prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 15th Reinforcements on board HMAT Ormonde on 2 March 1918. Pte Flanders served on the Western Front; he died of wounds on 3 October 1918, aged 25. He is buried at St. Sever Cemetery Extension, Rouen, France.
