Studio portrait of WX7623 Private (Pte) George Tom Shelton, 2/4 Machine Gun Battalion, of Busselton, WA; formerly of London, England. Shelton enlisted in August 1940. Following the fall of Singapore on 15 February 1942, Pte Shelton, along with his unit were taken prisoner of war. Initially held at Changi, many men including Pte Shelton were later sent to work on the Burma-Thai Railway. Pte Shelton died in Thailand on 7 September 1943. He was 25 years of age.
