Studio portrait of 4811 Private (Pte) Alfred Edward Keed, 2nd Battalion, of Inglewood, Qld. A carpenter prior to enlisting, Pte Keed embarked from Sydney with the 15th Reinforcements on board HMAT Star of England (A15) on 8 March 1916. He joined the 54th Battalion in April 1916 and arrived in France for service on the Western Front on 29 June. He was wounded in action at Fromelles on 20 July and died of his wounds the next day, 21 July 1916. Pte Keed was 32 years of age.
