Description

Guadalcanal Beach Resort (GBR) is the main base for the military and police forces of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). It was an American base during the Second World War and is situated across the road from Henderson Airport. Temporary installations include canvas tents with cement slabs that are used for accommodation and as shown in this work, a workshop. In the foreground Jules Fisk, an ADF mechanic and armourer, pulls apart a rifle. In the background are two Interim Infantry Mobility Vehicles used by the ADF. Often referred to as 'Sixbees', this six wheeled Land Rover is being phased out.
