Description
Studio portrait of 2138 (later 2138A) Private (Pte) Frederick Thomas Branch, 53rd Battalion, of Karangi, NSW. A farmer prior to enlisting in March 1916, Pte Branch embarked with the 4th Reinforcements from Sydney on board HMAT Vestalia (A44) on 11 July 1916. He arrived in France for service on the Western Front in November 1916 and in December was transferred to the 19th Battalion. Pte Branch was killed in action at Flers, France, on 23 December 1916. He was 24 years of age.
