Studio portrait of 3298 Private (Pte) John Ernest Donald Dunemann, 50th Battalion from Terowie, South Australia. A 23 year old machinist prior to enlisting on 27 July 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 11th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 27 October 1915 aboard HMAT Benalla. He joined the 50th Battalion in Egypt and underwent further training before going to France in June 1916. Pte Dunemann was killed in action and buried at Mouquet Farm, France on 16 August 1916. In 1925 his remains were exhumed and interred with a permanent headstone in the AIF Burial Ground, Grass Lane, Flers, France.
