Studio portrait of 3847 Private (Pte) John Healy, 50th Battalion from Adelaide, South Australia. A 44 year old bricklayer prior to enlisting on 10 September 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 9th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 7 February 1916 aboard HMAT Miltiades. He joined the 50th Battalion in Egypt and went with them to France in June 1916. While serving in France, he was taken ill and after several periods of hospitalisation, he was evacuated to England where he died on 10 February 1917. Pte Healy is buried in the Melcombe Regis Cemetery, Weymouth, Dorset, UK.
