Description

Outdoor portrait of 4729 Private (Pte) Francis Gordon Angrave, 50th Battalion from Gawler, South Australia. An 18 year old machinist prior to enlisting on 10 November 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 15th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion from Adelaide on 9 March 1916 aboard RMS Mongolia. A week after arriving in Egypt in June 1916, he went to France where he joined the 50th Battalion on 6 September 1916. Pte Angrave was killed in action near Flers, France on 23 February 1917 and buried in the Bulls Road Military Cemetery, Flers.
