Description

Studio portrait of 2172 Private (Pte) Roy Goldsbrough, 56th Battalion, of Manly, NSW. An ironmonger prior to enlisting in March 1916, Pte Goldsbrough embarked from Sydney with the 4th Reinforcements on board HMAT Port Sydney (A15) on 4 September 1916. He arrived in France for service on the Western Front on 15 December 1916. Pte Goldsbrough was killed in action at Bullecourt, France, on 16 May 1917, aged 21 years. Pte Goldsbrough's brother, 4795 Pte Hector Goldsbrough died on 4 April 1917 of wounds received in action at Louverval, France.
