Studio portrait of 2125 Corporal (Cpl) Lawrence Bolton Leslie, 50th Battalion from Quorn, South Australia. A 23 year old clerk prior to enlisting on 3 December 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 4th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 12 August 1916 aboard HMAT Ballarat. He was made an Acting Sergeant for the duration of the voyage and reverted to the rank of Private on arrival in England. While undergoing further training in England, he was promoted to Acting Corporal and then reverted to Private again on arrival in France in November 1916. After joining the 50th Battalion in January 1917, he was evacuated to England in March 1917 for medical treatment for frost bite and trench feet. He rejoined the 50th Battalion in July 1917 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 4 October 1917 and to Corporal on 5 November 1917. Cpl Leslie was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux, France on 25 April 1918 and buried in the Adelaide British Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux.
