Description

Studio portrait of 2718 Private (Pte) Henry Gordon Packer, 50th Battalion from Mundalla, South Australia. A 28 year old farmer prior to enlisting on 5 May 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 6th Reinforcements of the 50th Battalion from Adelaide on 23 October 1916 aboard HMAT Port Melbourne. Following further training in England, he arrived in France and joined the 50th Battalion on 21 June 1917. After being wounded in action on 21 April 1918, he received medical treatment in France and returned to the 50th Battalion on 7 June 1918. Five days later he was wounded again and died from his wounds on 12 June 1918. Pte Packer is buried in the Franvillers Communal Cemetery Extension, near Corbie, France.
