Studio portrait of 3624 Private (Pte) Robert Ernest George Crossman, 50th Battalion from Prospect, South Australia. A 19 year old clerk prior to enlisting on 23 March 1917, he embarked for overseas with the 10th Reinforcements of the 50th Battalion from Melbourne on 4 August 1917 aboard HMAT Themistocles. Following further training in England, he joined the 50th Battalion in France on 26 January 1918. Pte Crossman was killed in action near Hamel, France on 7 July 1918 and is commemorated on the Australian National Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with others who have no known grave.
