Portrait of 2437 Acting Sergeant Roy Holly Larwood, 50th Battalion from Yacka, South Australia. A 25 year old school teacher prior to enlisting on 5 April 1916, he embarked for overseas with the 5th Reinforcements of the 50th Battalion from Adelaide on 21 September 1916 aboard HMAT Commonwealth. On arrival in England, he reverted to the rank of Private (Pte) and following further training in England and France, joined the 50th Battalion on 19 December 1916. Pte Larwood was killed in action at Flers, France on 23 February 1917 and buried in Bulls Road Cemetery, Flers.
