Description
Portrait of Captain (Capt) Philip Beauchamp Sewell, Australian Army Medical Corps from East Malvern, Victoria. A 23 year old medical practitioner prior to enlisting on 16 December 1916, he embarked for overseas with other medical officers on 16 January 1917 aboard HMAT Bulla. After a period of service in hospitals in England and France he was appointed the Regimental Medical Officer of the 50th Battalion on 2 October 1917. Capt Sewell was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux, France on 25 April 1918 and is buried in the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery, Fouilloy, France.
