Portrait of 2730 Sergeant (Sgt) Clement Everly Bradford, 50th Battalion from Murray Bridge, South Australia. A 19 year old shop assistant prior to enlisting on 28 May 1916, he embarked of overseas as a Private with the 9th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion from Adelaide on 21 September 1915 aboard HMAT Star of England. After joining the 10th Battalion at Gallipoli in November, a month later they were evacuated to Egypt where he transferred to the 50th Battalion. While serving in France and Belgium with the 50th Battalion he was promoted up through the ranks to Sergeant and was awarded a Military Medal for exceptional courage on operations on 12 August 1918 near Bray-Sur-Somme, France and a bar to the Military Medal for conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 18 September 1918 near St Quentin, France. Sgt Bradford died from pneumonia in hospital in Harefield, UK on 12 October 1918 and was buried in the Harefield (St Mary) Churchyard. England.
