Portrait of 4625 Private (Pte) Robert O'Hara Rattley, 50th Battalion from Edithburg, South Australia. A 20 year old painter prior to enlisting on 17 September 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 14th Reinforcements of the 10th Battalion from Adelaide on 7 February 1916 aboard HMAT Miltiades. Following further training in Egypt, he proceeded to France in June 1916 and spent most of the latter half of 1917 in hospital in England. After joining the 50th Battalion in France in December 1917, he was killed in action at Villers-Bretonneux on 25 April 1918. Pte Rattley is buried in the Adelaide Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux, France.
