Collection relating to the Second World War service of NX1419 Private Edward Wallace Proudfoot, 2/2 Australian Infantry Battalion, Second Australian Imperial Force, Palestine, 1940.
Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one six-page letter from Private Edward Wallace Proudfoot to his sister, Miss Valetta Rose Proudfoot, dated 25 June 1940. This letter was written while Private Proudfoot was serving with 2/2 Australian Infantry Battalion in Palestine. In his letter, Private Proudfoot writes about sightseeing while on leave in Jerusalem and the surrounding area.
Private Edward Wallace Proudfoot enlisted to the Second Australian Imperial Force on 2 November 1939. He served with 2/2 Australian Infantry Battalion in Palestine, Egypt and Libya. On 4 January 1941, Private Proudfoot died of wounds received during the Battle of Bardia. He is buried at Halfaya Sollum War Cemetery, Egypt.
