Description
Portrait of 851 Company Sergeant Major Alexander Paterson, C Company, 32nd Battalion from Trayning, Dowerin, Meridian Line, Western Australia (originally from Turriff, Scotland). A 25 year old storekeeper prior to enlisting on 13 March 1915, he embarked for overseas with the 32nd Battalion from Fremantle, Western Australia aboard HMAT Katuna (A13) on 24 November 1915. After arriving in Egypt, he was promoted to Second Lieutenant and then proceeded to France with the 32nd Battalion in June 1916. He was killed in action on 20 July 1916 and is buried in the Le Trou Aid Post Cemetery, Fleurbaix, France.
