Description
Pre enlistment studio portrait of 1908 Private (Pte) Percy Bartholomew (Billy) Allen, 1st Battalion, of Pennant Hills, NSW. An orchardist prior to enlisting in January 1915, Pte Allen embarked from Sydney with the 5th Reinforcements on board HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 25 June 1915. He was wounded in action at Lone Pine, Gallipoli, on 6 August and died on 11 August 1915. Pte Allen was 32 years of age.
