Description
Studio portrait of 992 Gunner (Gnr) Robert Llewellyn Martin, 14th Field Australian Artillery Brigade. A presser from Osborne Park, Western Australia, he enlisted as a Private in the 32nd Battalion which embarked from Adelaide aboard HMAT Geelong on 18 November 1915 for Suez. Pte Martin transferred to the 14th Field Artillery Brigade as a Gunner on 15 March 1916. His unit relocated to the Western Front, France, during June 1916. Gnr Martin was killed in action near Ypres, Belgium, on 5 August 1917 and is interred in the Menin Road South Military Cemetery. He was aged 23 years.
