Studio portrait of 4274 Private (Pte) Ernest William Collins, 32nd Battalion. A viceman from Croydon, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide aboard HMAT Afric on 7 November 1916 for Plymouth, England. After training with the 8th Training Battalion at Hurdcott, England, he joined his battalion near Bapaume, France, in April 1917. Pte Collins was killed in action near Messines, Belgium, on 20 November 1917 and is buried in the Messines Ridge British Cemetery. He was aged 24 years.
