Studio portrait of 667 Private (Pte) Samuel Fielden, 43rd Battalion. A baker from Kadina, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide on 9 June 1916 aboard HMAT Afric for disembarkation in Marseilles, France, and travel to England for training. Following training he embarked for the Western Front, France, and was transferred to the 32nd Battalion near Saint Quentin. Pte Fielden was killed in action near Bapaume, France, on 10 December 1916. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 33 years.
