Studio portrait of 2999 Private (Pte) Leslie Voce, 32nd Battalion. A farmer from Athelstone, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 11 April 1916 aboard HMAT Aeneas for Suez. Due to illness in Egypt he relocated to England before joining his battalion at Strazeele, France, on the Western Front in mid-October 1916. Pte Voce was wounded in action near Saint Sulpice, France, on 6 November 1916. He was initially evacuated to 18th General Hospital, Camiers, and then to 35th General Hospital, Calais, where he died of these wounds on 28 November 1916. Pte Voce is buried in the Calais Southern Cemetery. He was aged 18 years.
