Studio portrait of 2888 Private (Pte) Edward Henry Charles Bonnett, 32nd Battalion. A motor driver from Milparinka, New South Wales, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 6th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 11 April 1916 aboard HMAT Aeneas for Suez. The battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, during June 1916. Pte Bonnett joined the unit near Fleurbaix in late August 1916 and he was appointed Lance Corporal (L Cpl) on 28 April 1917. He was wounded in action on the first occasion on 28 September 1917 and was evacuated to England for treatment and recuperation before rejoining his battalion in early May 1918. L Cpl Bonnett was wounded in action a second time near Corbie, France, on 25 June 1918 and died of these wounds the following day and is buried in the Vignacourt British Cemetery. He was aged 22 years.
