Studio portrait of 4514 Private (Pte) Ernest Walter Cooper, 32nd Battalion. A bricklayer from Adelaide, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide with the 12th Reinforcements on 16 December 1916 aboard HMAT Berrima, for Devonport, England. Following training in England he proceeded to join his battalion on the Western Front near Albert, France. He was hospitalised for six weeks in September 1917 due to an accidental injury. Pte Cooper was wounded in action near Corbie, France, on 25 June 1918, died of these wounds later that day and is buried in the Vignacourt British Cemetery. He was aged 33 years.
