Portrait of 2761 Private (Pte) Ernest Cecil Bartlett, 32nd Battalion. A labourer from Leasingham, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Adelaide with the 5th Reinforcements on 25 March 1916 aboard HMAT Shropshire for Suez. The battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, during June 1916. He was wounded in action hear Trones Wood on 21 February 1917 and was able to rejoin his unit 5 weeks later. Pte Bartlett was killed in action at Polygon Wood on 30 September 1917. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium. He was aged 24 years.
