Outdoor portrait of 2789 Private (Pte) Ernest Robert Booth, 10th Battalion. A fireman from Alberton, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 9th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 21 September 1915 aboard HMAT Star of England (A15) for Suez. He was transferred to the 50th Battalion in early April 1916 and was assigned to the Transport Section as Driver (Dvr). The 50th Battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, in early June 1916. Two months later Dvr Booth resumed company duties and reverted to the rank of Private. Pte Booth was killed in action near Messines, Belgium, on 11 June 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. He was aged 23 years.
