Group portrait of three members of the 43rd Battalion, 8th Reinforcements, from left to right: 3362 Private (Pte) Thomas Andrew Quigley; 3363 Pte Daniel David Quigley; and 3277 Pte Herbert Stanley Bailey. All three embarked from Melbourne on 7 March 1918 aboard RMS Ormonde for Suez and then to Southampton, England, where they were transferred to the 50th Battalion. Pte Thomas Quigley was appointed Lance Corporal and both brothers returned to Australia in July 1919. Pte Bailey, a news vendor from Thebarton, South Australia prior to enlistment, joined his battalion on the Western Front near Villers-Bretonneux. Pte Bailey was wounded in action on 13 September 1918, died of these wounds the same day and is buried in the Brie British Cemetery, France. He was aged 24 years.
