Studio portrait of 3360 Private (Pte) Eric Arnold Austin, 50th Battalion. A sign writer from Kadina, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 9th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 10 February 1917 aboard HMAT Seang Bee (A48) for Devonport, England. After four months with the 13th Training Battalion at Codford, he proceeded to France to join his battalion on the Western Front near Lugy. Pte Austin was killed in action near Albert on 6 April 1918. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 22 years.
