Description

Studio portrait of 3378 Private (Pte) Gustave Adolph Kluge, 10th Battalion. A labourer from Mindarie, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 11th Reinforcements from Adelaide aboard HMAT Benalla (A24) on 27 October 1915 for Suez. On 26 February 1916 he was transferred to the 50th Battalion which relocated to the Western Front, France, in early June 1916. Pte Kluge was originally reported as missing in action near Mouquet Farm on 16 August 1916 and was subsequently determined to have been killed in action on that date. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial, France. He was aged 24 years
