Studio portrait of 9447 Private (Pte) Richard William Jones, 4th Field Ambulance, Australian Army Medical Corps, of West Perth, WA; formerly of Brighton, England. A shop assistant prior to enlisting in December 1915, Pte Jones embarked from Fremantle with the 15th Reinforcements on board HMAT Ulysses (A38) on 1 March 1916. He arrived in France in July 1917, and was transferred to the 13th Field Ambulance in August. Pte Jones was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium, on 21 October 1917. He was 24 years of age.
