Studio portrait of 2626 Sergeant (Sgt) George Christopher Dalziell, 16th Battalion, of Maddington, WA. A basketmaker prior to enlisting in June 1915, Dalziell embarked from Fremantle with the 8th Reinforcements on board HMAT Anchises (A68) on 2 September 1915. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in June 1916 and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) in June 1919. He returned to Australia shortly after. Sgt Dalziell was one of three enlisted brothers: 2650 Private (Pte) Ernest Rewell Dalziell, 48th Battalion, was killed in action at Bullecourt, France, on 11 April 1917; 2806 Pte Walter Edward Dalziell, 51st Battalion, was killed in action at Pozieres, France, between 14 and 16 August 1916.
