Studio portrait of 2479 Private (Pte) Vivian Rule, 48th Battalion. Born in Goodwood, South Australia, 1336 Vivian Roland Rule served with the Australian Army Medical Corps Contingent in the Boer War. He returned to South Australia, married and had two children, served with the Citizens' Military Forces (CMF) and was employed as a bricklayer in Prospect. On 10 July 1916, he re-enlisted and embarked with the 5th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 28 August 1916 aboard HMAT Anchises (A68). He was taken on strength in France in February 1917 and discharged on 18 October 1917. He wears a Queen's South Africa Medal with two campaign clasps. See also P09366.011.
