Description

Group portrait of the ship's company of HMAS Vendetta posed behind the ship's crest. Amongst this group, but exact position unknown, is S1943 Able Seaman (AB) Frank Owen Carlisle Newson, who enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy on 26 August 1939 and served on HMAS Vendetta between 29 August 1939 and 16 July 1941. He was posted to HMAS Perth on 17 July 1941. AB Newson was killed in action on 1 March 1942 when HMAS Perth was sunk in the Sunda Strait by Japanese destroyers during the Battle of the Java Sea.
