Studio portrait of 4036 Private (Pte) Norman Isaac Coote, 32nd Battalion. A sleeper hewer from Collie, Western Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 10th Reinforcements from Fremantle on 28 October 1916 aboard HMAT Port Melbourne (A16) for Devonport, England. After training in England he joined his battalion on the Western Font near Bernafay, France, on 25 March 1917. Pte Coote was killed in action near Zonnebeke, Belgium, on 12 October 1917. He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial. Belgium. He was aged 29 years.
