Studio portrait of 6735 Private (Pte) Vivian Harry Carson, 16th Battalion. A farmer from Geraldton, Western Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Fremantle on 9 November 1916 aboard HMAT Argyllshire (A8) for Devonport, England. After training in England he proceed to France and was transferred to the 32nd Battalion and joined them on the Western Front near Bapaume, France. Pte Carson was killed in action near Corbie, France, on 17 June 1918. He was aged 24 years. His younger brother, Second Lieutenant Cecil Frank Carson, 44th Battalion was killed in action near Amiens on 4 April 1918.
