Outdoor portrait of Lieutenant (Honorary Captain) Edward Alfred Frederick Compton, Officer Commanding (OC) the 2nd Reinforcements of the 28th Battalion. This reinforcement group embarked aboard HMAT Demosthenes (A64) on 23 July 1915. The honorary rank was bestowed, for the duration of the voyage only, to the person appointed the most senior officer in charge of troops on the voyage overseas.
