Studio portrait of 5 Sergeant (Sgt) Harry Brimage, 32nd Battalion. A carpenter from Beachport, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked as a Corporal (Cpl) with A Company from Adelaide on 18 November 1915 aboard HMAT Geelong (A2) for Suez. The battalion relocated to the Western Front, France, during June 1916. Cpl Brimage was wounded in action at the Battle of Fromelles on 19 July 1916 and was evacuated to 25th General Hospital for treatment and recuperation before rejoining his unit nine weeks later. He was promoted to Sergeant on 19 October 1916. Sgt Brimage was awarded the Military Medal (MM) for conspicuous bravery under fire at Flers on the night of 5 and 6 November 1916. Sgt Brimage was wounded in action on 9 November 1915 and died of these wounds later that day at 38 Casualty Clearing Station. He was aged 27 years.
