Description

Outdoor portrait of 6283 Private (Pte) Vincent Arthur Kennard, 16th Battalion. A farmer from Albany, Western Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked from Fremantle on 13 October 1916 aboard HMAT Suffolk, for Plymouth, England. After training in England he proceeded to France and was transferred to the 32nd Battalion on 16 March 1917 and joined his new unit on the Western Front near Grevillers, France. Pte Kennard was killed in action near Ypres, Belgium, on 30 September 1917. He has no known grave and he is commemorated on the Ypres, Menin Gate Memorial. He was aged 24 years.
