Studio portrait of 2304 Private (Pte) Murdock William Cameron, 32nd Battalion. A farrier from Adelaide, South Australia, prior to enlistment, he embarked with the 4th Reinforcements from Adelaide on 9 March 1916 aboard RMS Mongolia for Suez. He relocated to England with part of the battalion before joining his unit on the Western Front, France, near Armentieres on 24 September 1916. He was hospitalised with influenza on 9 December 1916 and was evacuated to England for treatment before rejoining his unit on 27 June 1917. Pte Cameron was wounded in action near Dickebusch, Belgium, on 2 October 1917 and was evacuated to England for treatment and recuperation before rejoining the battalion in mid-January 1918. Pte Cameron was wounded in action on the second occasion near Amiens on 15 June 1918 and was evacuated to England for treatment. While recuperating he attended Signals School. Pte Cameron was admitted to hospital on 13 December 1918 with pleurisy and died of this disease in No1 Australian General Hospital, Sutton Veny on 6 April 1919. He was aged25 years.
