Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of one log book of Flight Sergeant Albert Alfred John Stratford, containing entries dated between 18 May 1940 and 12 February 1942. It covers the period of Flight Sergeant Stratford’s service as an air gunner with 10 Squadron, based in the United Kingdom and the Mediterranean. The log book entries record information such as dates and times of flights, aircraft types and numbers, names of pilots, and purposes of flights. Some of the recorded purposes of flights include convoy escorts, anti-shipping patrols, security patrols, transport, reconnaissance, training, search and rescue, and aircraft tests. This log book also includes two newspaper clippings and a copy of Flight Sergeant Stratford’s Statement of Service and Discharge.
Flight Sergeant Albert Alfred John Stratford enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 11 September 1939. Between December 1939 and July 1942, he served as an air gunner with 10 Squadron, based in the United Kingdom. With this unit, Flight Sergeant Stratford participated in patrols, transport flights, and reconnaissance over the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea. Flight Sergeant Stratford later served as a fitter with 40 Squadron, based in New Guinea. He was discharged on 4 September 1945.
