Description

Studio portrait of three brothers, all members of the 52nd Battalion. From left, 2691 (later 2691A) Private (Pte) Arthur Bridgeman Laidlaw, of Laidley, Qld; 2692 Pte Henry Hunter Laidlaw, of East Brisbane, Qld; 2769 Pte Harold Franklin Laidlaw, of Laidley, Qld. The brothers all enlisted in May 1916 and embarked together with the 6th Reinforcements from Sydney on board HMAT Ceramic (A40) on 7 October 1916. Pte Henry Laidlaw returned to Australia in May 1918 and Pte Harold Laidlaw in July 1917. Pte Arthur Laidlaw was killed in action at Messines, Belgium, on 9 June 1917, aged 20. He is remembered with honour on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Flanders, Belgium.
