Description
Graves with white crosses of allied soldiers at Kantara War Memorial Cemetery. The majority of the names are too faint to be legible, however 1611 Private (Pte) Alfred Henry Robertson can be identified. A farmer of Alexandria, Vic, with three months service in the Citizens' Military Forces (CMF), Robertson enlisted on 14 July 1915. He embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ascanius (A11) on 10 November 1915 with the 12th Reinforcement of the 8th Light Horse Regiment. He died of wounds on 25 December 1916, aged 26. Caption on photograph written by 1260 Warrant Officer Roy Rowe reads 'The lonely crosses of the desert, during the desert campaign'.
