Studio portrait of 442 Lieutenant (Lt) Fred Harold Tomlins and Staff Nurse Jessie Millicent Tomlins, his sister. Lt Tomlins, a farmer of Narromine, NSW, served one year in the Citizens' Military Forces (CMF) before enlisting as a Signalman on 22 August 1914. He embarked aboard HMAT Star of Victoria (A16) on 20 October 1914 with the 1st Light Horse Regiment, C Squadron. He was promoted to Lt on 10 October 1917 and returned to Australia on 15 November 1918. Jessie Millicent Tomlins, a nurse of Narromine, NSW, enlisted on 6 July 1916. She embarked aboard RMS Kashgar on 2 September 1916 with the Australian Army Nursing Service, as a Staff Nurse but was promoted to Sister when working at the 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital in England. She returned to Australia on 13 July 1919. Caption, written by 1260 Warrant Officer Roy Rowe, reads 'Fred H Towlins 1st A. L. H. Reg; Jessie M Tomlins, 14 A. G. Hosp, Egypt 28.10.18'.
